HTML TUTORIALS: Ex. 2 - Web Page Head and Body Areas EXERCISE 2: WEB PAGE HEAD AND BODY AREAS :
Every web page has a head area and a body area. The head area is where we place the title that will appear in the browser window when we load our pages. It's also the place that Javascript coding, search engine related tags, and other tags related to the browser, will go. We are going to concentrate just on the title tag for now. The body of the html page is what actually goes on the screen. In other words, what we will see. Anything that you want to appear on the screen must go inside of the opening and closing body tags. This area is what I call the "Meat and Potatoes" area of the page. NOTE: You should have noticed that the Title of the window said, "Bucktowndusty's Tutorial Page".(If you didn't notice, hit the submit button again and look in the top left of the window in the blue area. That is where the title is.) The title tag always goes inside of the head tags, and you can put whatever title you wish. Putting tags inside of others is what we call Nesting tags. When you nest tags make sure you do so like the chart belows says:
Ex. 2 Figure 2: Proper nesting of tags. As the chart shows, if you type tags after other tags, make sure you end the inner tag before you end the outer tag. Don't worry if you don't understand this 100%. You will the more you practice. Also notice that since we typed some text after the opening body tag and before the closing body tag, it actually appears on the screen. This demonstrates that you don't have to put a tag before text on a web page. We'll get into the particulars of text later, though. ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENT: Change the title and text that you typed above to something that suits you(no curse words towards HTML allowed), hit the submit button, look at what happens, and continue reading below. Pretty cool, huh? In the next exercise you will learn about tag Attributes and how to add them inside of the tags that you will be learning.
