Politicians: $169,000 Per Pork Barrel

The price of politicians has increased astronomically since 1815 when they received $1,500 per year. Now, in 2008, they take a staggering $169,000 per year.

No, I don't need to be an economist to understand that these salary increases represent a far more drastic increase than oil prices.

At least oil gets me to work each day and heats my home. It's the policies of politicians that cause me to have to work longer and harder each day.

And just ask yourself this; when's the last time politicians put a moratorium on Congressional salary increases as they have with oil refinery construction?

Can't remember? Me neither.

So, to solve our oil problem, John McCain, the master economist, proposes to cut 18.4 cents per gallon from the gas tax for a three month period (Never mind drilling for oil, or pushing for wind and solar power legislation).

Thank you John, but let's do some simple arithmetic.

Filling up two times a week, as I do, for three months will save me a whopping $44.16 (20 gallons per week, times 12 weeks, times .184).

Considering that the last Congressional pay raise was $4,100, that we pay for our politicians' salaries, and that politicians can refuse pay raises if they want to, I'll need to have this tax break extended for a total period of 7.9 years to equal the amount of this subsidy that McCain so graciously forgot to deny himself in 2008, and to equal the amount of time it will take me to stop laughing as such a stupid fucking proposal.
