Daddy Wal-Mart & Mother Earth
by Bucktowndusty
An intriguing discussion wages regarding the pros and cons of the organic food industry. What should be an open and shut case of “do-good-ery” on the part of the organic food market just for introducing healthy, natural, alternative food choices to the masses, has become a pickled onion of questionable consequences.
Pesticides and hormones, we’re told, are bad for us and should be avoided at all costs – even though the vast majority of America’s food supply receives such preparation. So, organic food stores come along and offer America just that; foods grown naturally with fertilizer and compost instead. Of course this Mother-Earth-friendly method costs more, but doesn’t any product we buy which, after all, helps us live longer and better? “At all costs,” means just that, right?
But, critics clamor that by going organic, America is creating a two-tiered food system, with rich people getting the good food and poor people getting the overly-processed shaft. I’m afraid these people will never be happy, even if they lived inside the best gated community of Utopia.
Right or wrong, big government is just that; big enough to either give poor people food credits so they can purchase organic foods just as rich people do, or force all farmers to sow the organic reap (sow to speak), giving everyone no choice but to buy organic. One way or the other, poor people will get their “fair share” of organic food.
Another gripe regarding organics is that major organic chains, although claiming to support local farmers, import their food from huge organic operations in California and foreign organic farmers, thus putting local farmers out of business. But, haven’t farmers been going out of business even before business was a word? Continuing, critics feel that any environmental gains created by using fertilizer and compost are negated by increased energy demands needed to get the food from these remote locations and into the stores. As I said, “What a pickle!”
So, how do we rectify this inequity, you wonder? Get Wal-Mart to solve the problem?
Wal-Mart announced plans to enter the organic food market. With their “more for less” model, poor people will be able to buy organic food for the same price that processed foods cost now. Wal-Mart, the destroyer of Mom & Pops shops world wide, is stepping up and erasing world food injustice. Amazing.
How this debate unfolds is unknown. But, one this is certain. I’m not waiting around for Whole Foods, Big Government, or Wal-mart to take care of me. I plan to implement the techniques in the book “"The Self-sufficient Life and How to Live it ,” and produce my own damn’d organics.
After all, reliance on nobody but yourself is the epitome of organic.

This Message Will Self-Destruct

If you are wondering if we are winning or losing the war in Iraq, the answer is we are not losing. But, we are losing the war against Islamic radicals.
If it’s one phrase Islamic radicals know in English, it’s, “Death to America,” and that’s exactly what they mean, death to America – all of America, not just our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. This, they say over and over, but so far it hasn’t registered with our lawmakers in Washington, D.C. They’re too busy running around, like bumper cars at a carnival, trying to prove which one of them will make a better president than George Bush.
Islamic radicals know they can’t beat the military might of America and they aren’t really concerned with how many of our troops they kill in Iraq, or how many of their own people they murder. What they want is, “Death to America,” all of America.
So how can they defeat America, all of America? By getting us to defeat ourselves, and our Congress is falling right into their game plan with all of their bickering bullshit.
That’s about all there is to it – the radicals just cause trouble in Iraq then sit back and watch us self-destruct.
